What Is UV Printing?

UV printing uses ultraviolet light to cure (dry) specially formulated UV ink as it's applied to a surface. Unlike sublimation, which requires heat-sensitive coatings, UV printing works on a wide variety of materials — from ceramics and wood to plastics and metals.

The eufyMake E1 brings this technology to consumers at an accessible price point, making it possible to print vibrant, durable designs on everyday objects right from your desk.

💡UV vs. Sublimation

If you're coming from sublimation printing, the key difference is this: UV ink sits on top of the surface and is cured by UV light, while sublimation dye is absorbed into a special coating. This means UV can print on many more materials, but adhesion varies by surface type.

Unboxing and Setup

When your eufyMake E1 arrives, here's what to expect:

  1. Carefully unpack everything — check for the printer, print head, UV ink cartridges, power adapter, USB cable, and any included test materials.
  2. Install the print head following the included instructions. This is the most delicate step.
  3. Load the UV ink cartridges into the correct slots. The E1 uses CMYK + White inks.
  4. Connect to your computer via USB and install the eufyMake software.
  5. Run the initial calibration — the software will guide you through head alignment and nozzle check.

⚠️Handle with Care

The print head is fragile and expensive to replace. Never touch the nozzle plate with your fingers. Always handle it by the plastic housing.

Choosing Your First Material

For your very first print, we recommend starting with something flat, smooth, and white:

  • Phone cases are ideal — flat surface, easy to align, and impressive results
  • Coasters are also great — forgiving size and popular as gifts
  • Mugs work but require a jig for proper alignment around the curve

🔴Avoid Sublimation Blanks!

Regular sublimation blanks (with a glossy poly coating) are NOT suitable for UV printing. The UV ink won't adhere properly and will scratch or peel off. Look for powder-coated, unglazed, or raw material surfaces instead.

Your First Print: Step by Step

  1. Prepare your design in the eufyMake software. For your first attempt, use a simple, colorful image.
  2. Place your material on the printer bed. Ensure it's flat and centered.
  3. Adjust the print head height — the software will guide you, but the head should be just above the surface (usually 1-2mm).
  4. Print a white base layer first if your material isn't white. This makes colors pop.
  5. Print the color layer on top of the white base.
  6. Let it cure — the UV LEDs cure the ink during printing, but allow a few hours before handling for best durability.

Tips for Success

  • Always do a test print on a scrap piece before committing to your good materials
  • Clean the print head regularly — dried ink causes nozzle clogs
  • Keep ink cartridges sealed when not in use — UV ink is light-sensitive
  • Use white ink as a base for non-white materials to get vibrant colors
  • Allow 24 hours of cure time before washing or heavy use for maximum durability
